101 in 1001: Monthly Update

One of my goals in my 101 in 1001 list is to blog monthly for a check up of how my accomplishing the list is going! I'm off to a great start and have already started working on things for next month. Not everything will be able to be checked off each month as completed, but just knowing that I have things in order and are being worked on is awesome! I'm very happy with this list and love referring to it for ideas of things to do. It reminds me what is important in my life and encourages me to accomplish the things I care most about! Right now I have had a lot of focus on school and this is definitely helping to keep my priorities in order! And, oh how I love the accountability that the list provides...how wrong is it that I want to make a list happy?  Oh well, whatever gets the job done, right?
So, I put the things I've started and completed in bold and put them in maroon so that they're easy to see. Some of them have been linked to another blog post if I've gone into details on them. Otherwise, I think it's all pretty self explanatory!

101 in 1001: Things I'm Happy/Thankful For

Today is my first post to complete my goal of writing 28 lists of things I'm happy and thankful for each month. I saw a couple of other bloggers do this as part of their 101 in 1001s and I thought it was a great idea. So, today I'm getting started!

{ one }
I'm thankful for my amazing husband. I could write tons of posts on this alone, and you might see him on each list but he's definitely starting this one! He is amazing and supports me in everything I want to do and accomplish. He has been so great in helping me get started with school this month and all of the craziness that goes along with that. He's just awesome that way!

{ two }
I'm thankful for my awesome bloggy friend, Kayleigh. We met in this blogging world and we've become best friends so quickly! I feel like I've met my twin! Seriously, we like all the same things. It's unbelievable!  Mr. B always gets so confused when we're skypeing because I'm laughing all the time! And, she's done so much to encourage me in walk with Christ and I really appreciate her all the more for it.

{ three }
I'm thankful for my new school supplies! I love going into class knowing I'm prepared and have the supplies I need to be successful at school. The smell of new binders, my new lunchbox, my new tote bag, they're awesome. And, super cute, so that makes it all the better!

{ four }
I'm thankful for my Erin Condren planner that is helping keep me organized and prepared. I know where to find out what's going on in my life all the time and can plan ahead. I love being prepared in class and knowing what's going on! Plus, it doesn't hurt that it's so cute I WANT to write in it ALL the time!

So, there's what I'm thankful for this month! I'm glad to be focusing on the things that I'm thankful for so that I can always remember how awesome and amazing my life is!

Friday's Fancies: Fashion Education

Today, I'm linking up for Friday's Fancies with Long Distance Loving. I haven't linked up in awhile and have missed creating these fun outfits. Money's no object when putting together your Friday's Fancies post, so I try to make sure I use as many items that I can't afford as possible!

Today's outfit is a little number I've put together for school, enjoy!

Fashion Education

This outfit is perfect for school. The dress with leggings is so cute, but also layers are good for keeping warm in classrooms that are notoriously cold all the time. Thanks to the Cardigan and scarf, additional layers are always handy. And flats allow me to walk around campus without killing my feet.  And this bag is PERFECT! Every girl needs a cute bag to carry her books in and this one is it. (Seriously, why carry a book bag when you can carry something cute and functional!) Plus, this outfit will easily look cute if the hubby and I decide to go out in the evening after I finish classes and he's off work!

I hope y'all all have a great Friday!! And enjoy you're weekend!! Can you believe, this is the last weekend in January? We're already 1/12 of the way the 2012...Let's bring on February and Valentine's Day!

Accent Vlog!

Y'all, I'm very excited to be doing my first vlog! And this one is an accent vlog (as you probably guessed from the title of this post!) I hope you enjoy! (Sorry if it's a little long, I tried to keep it short...)

Here are the words and the questions I had to answer in the vlog.

Say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Answer the following:

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?

What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?

What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?

What do you call gym shoes?

What do you say to address a group of people?

What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?

What do you call your grandparents?

What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?

What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?

What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

So, it's your call, do I have an accent? If so, what would you call it?

101 in 1001: Semester Goals

One of my goals for school, that I listed on my 101 in 1001, is to create a list of goals for each semester while I'm in school. I've waited until I've experienced the classes, received syllabuses and gotten a feel for the class.

{ one }
Make a strong A in Chemistry. This class is graded on a curve with only the top 10% of the class receiving As. Fact of the matter is, I don't want to make a low A and find myself making a B in the class because of the curve. I'm not your traditional student (I'm married, and 25 taking classes after it's been a few years but not a true "non-traditional student.") And, I'm here to have fun but more importantly, to learn. I don't want some lucky kid to steal an A from me. I'm going to be working harder than a lot of those kids and don't want to make a B and even more, I don't want to make a C! (Which would put me in the middle 40% of the class!) There's nothing wrong with Cs if the class is difficult or the material is a subject you struggle with, but I've done well in science most of my life and I'm applying myself. Bs and Cs are just not an option for me.

{ two }
I want to stay on top of calculus. I go to this class 4 days a week and the material will be a little more difficult to keep up with since I haven't taken a math class in a couple of years. I don't want to fall behind in my class for anything. I want to make sure I'm learning the material as it is presented and not cramming to learn it when tests, or worse finals, come around.

{ three }
I want to enjoy my Computing and Graphics class. This professor is such a hoot. He had me giggling through the whole first class and I just really enjoyed it. I don't want that to end because I'm stressing about learning material or anything. Plus, this is the first class I'm taking in my major. If I don't enjoy this class, I may ought to reconsider my major! But seriously, everything he said about engineering had me so excited. I can't wait to learn more!

{ four }
Do as much homework and studying as possible while on campus. I have on average 3 hours of down time between my classes each day and I really want to make use of that time for studying, doing homework and familiarizing myself with the material. I know I will have to do some studying at home and on weekends, I just want to limit that to what is necessary. Things I couldn't complete on campus or subject matter that I need to study for better comprehension, retention, etc.

{ five }
Make all As. I have 3 classes this semester and I think that if I apply myself well, study hard, and stay on top of the material I have a great chance to accomplish this. I have made 11 As and 3Bs in all of my college coursework and I want those B's to more or less disappear!!

I think those pretty much cover my goals for the semester. We'll see how the semester goes and I'll update you when the semester is over!

101 in 1001: Embrace The Trend

I'm always one to buck trends. When something first comes out, I have to be against it for awhile. Which, isn't very convenient for me. Why? You might ask. Because by the time I embrace the trend, is usually about the time the trend starts to go away.

Part of this stems from growing up without a lot of money, so I didn't spend money I got on things that weren't going to last too long. (Except Gelly Roll pens. I spent WAY too much money on those!) So, I have generally just avoided embracing trends.

Now, Mr. B called me out on this recently for the umpteenth time and told me in no uncertain terms that I needed to get over it and just start embracing trends when they started so I could enjoy them longer. So, as part of my 101 in 1001, I decided to encourage myself to embrace two trends when I found out about them instead of resisting them.

And, I've already found the trend I'm going to embrace first. Smoking Shoes. This was almost too easy to embrace...or maybe I've just started changing my mindset enough that it came much more easily this time! So, without further ado, here are a few pairs of smoking shoes I'm interested in getting my hands on!

These are my favorite pair! But, they are also the most expensive. Since, I can't get these, I've got a couple of back up pairs in mind.

These are great (also by Steve Madden!) but, they are $40 cheaper. That puts these at the very top end of what I'd be willing to spend, but at least I can consider these.

These are $70 which still puts them at the top end of what I'm willing to spend, but still an option.

I'm hoping to do some searching and find some coupon codes or something to help get one of these pairs a little bit cheaper. You see, I need a new pair of flats since my other ones died. These are shoes I would probably wear close to every day with a pair of jeans or even a skirt or dress. They're cute, functional and probably pretty comfy too! I've just got to get a pair.

Now, I've seen these in black and brown and for me, that makes them a little too much like something a grandma would wear, so to avoid getting to grandma-ish, I want to make sure they are in a bold color or pattern. Not something too plain. And I LOVE pairing animal prints with just about everything which makes them a good choice for me. (Seriously, I pair an animal print with just about anything but another animal print.)

So, I'm hoping to get one of these pairs of shoes at some point...when is merely the question. But, at least I know I wanted them from the beginning and didn't wait to talk about how dumb I thought they were first! And I already told Mr. B, I'm just doing like you told me to!

101 in 1001: DVD Organization

I started this project back before Christmas. Mr. B and I have a TON of movies. Movies that we wouldn't "commit" to. Movies that went unwatched. So, first we cleaned up the collection. We actually considered what movies we would or wouldn't watch and got rid of the ones we wouldn't. We sold a lot of those on Amazon I think and got a few dollars for them.

And this system was fine, until we moved in with Mr. B's parents. We wanted to take our DVD's with us but it was going to be hard to store them all. So, we decided to buy a DVD case and put them in it. Now, I was a little hesitant to do this because DVDs have to be in alphabetical order. How else will you find them?

Our DVD Binder

So, after a lot of consideration, I figured it out! I got those little dot labels and each slot is numbered. And then, I created a spreadsheet on my computer that has the slot number and the disc that's in it. Everything we owned when we started the binder is in alphabetical order. Anything else is added immediately after in any random order.

The inside, numbered DVDs.

So far, I'm loving this system. First, I've found we've committed to more movies this way. Second, It's really easy to browse movies to pick one. Just flip through the pages. Third, it's SO contained. I believe we currently have 142 discs. A few of those have a special features disc that we choose to keep. (If it wasn't a special features disc of a movie we really like - we kept all of the Twilight discs - or if we weren't interested in the special features anymore - they weren't very good - we got rid of them.)

Also, we took all of our DVD series and put them into books as well. For us, the series we have in books are Bones, Frasier, Ghost Whisper and Lost. So, whenever we want to watch a series, we just pull out the book with it in there. I also have a spreadsheet for each of those that includes the season, disc numbers and the episode names on that disc. Whenever we want to watch something, we always know where to find it! And, we did a few special editions of movies (Gone With The Wind, Titanic) that we did keep in their cases, but there is just a few of them!

Now, to explain "committing" to movies. We were notorious for watching movies on tv that we owned. We would even watch them on TBS or USA where they had commercials in them. But, we wouldn't put the disc into the DVD player to watch it. It was a mix of not wanting to get down on the ground to pick the movie out and not wanting to potentially miss something better on tv...Yeah, we're nerds like that! Since we've put all of our movies into their books, we watch a lot more of them! It's just so easy and accessible. And we can fit all of our movies on one bookshelf. We had filled a whole DVD rack and were going to need a second. This is SO much easier!

If you've got a lot of movies, I REALLY suggest this organization method. It's so handy and easy to use! And takes up so little space!

Well, that is one of many things on my 101 in 1001 list that I get to cross off!

Oh How Pinteresting Wednesday! {vol 8}

Today I'm linking up with The Vintage Apple for Oh How Pintersting Wednesday!

I LOVE Pinterest but had stopped pinning a lot after my life got crazy in October/November. But, I'm back! We'll see how long it lasts now that I'm school though! (I'm predicting Pinterest to be one of my ways to take a break during studying!)

This past week, I went through and cleaned up all of my inboards. For awhile, I was nut and didn't want a bunch of boards. Don't ask me why, I just didn't. But then I realized, maybe it's a better to have more pin boards. I may or may not have realized this when I couldn't find anything!

And, I gave my boards cute names. Which I'm enjoying!

But, what you're really interested in is my pins, so I'll show those to you now! Today, we're looking at some nail polish ideas that I like!

This Chanel nail polish was discontinued in 2007 and sells for a fortune online. Maybe Chanel can put the nail polish on the market again soon? I'm DYING to try it!

Seriously, Tiffany blue nail polish a la Audrey Hepburn. This is no longer a want. It is a NEED!

I'm loving the sparkle with the black tips...I'm going to have to try this at some point!!

After my nail polish collection grows some more, I'm going to have to try this look! I LOVE it and my nails are dying to rock this look!

Of course, like when you become obsessed with anything, suddenly you find out that there's this much more costly world you can get involved in. Who knew nail polish could get so expensive? Not me, that's or sure! But it doesn't stop me from oohing and ahhing like crazy over these polishes!

So, there's my link up this week. Hopefully my nail polish collection starts growing tremendously soon...I swear, I'm bored with my colors already!

Fish Gotta Swim, Bird's Gotta Eat

If you check out my 101 in 1001 page or post, you'll see that one of the goals on my list is to make a meal plan each month. This is important for me because it's going to help me and the hubs out in a lot of ways. So, to help keep me accountable. I'm going to be posting my menus to my blog. Plus, it gives me somewhere to go for ideas in the future! So, here's the first one.

Now, this is a little short because we've only got a couple of weeks left in the month but it's better to get started now! Plus, with school starting this week, I'm going to need a way to get everything organized. So, here we go.

Monday, January 16: Red Beans & Rice
Tuesday, January 17: Taco Bake
Wednesday, January 18: Pizza
Thursday, January 19: Slow Cooker Beef Brisket
Friday, January 20: Left overs

Monday, January 23: Red Beans & Rice
Tuesday, January 24: Meatball Po-Boys
Wednesday, January 25: Pizza
Thursday, January 26: Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Friday, January 27: Left Overs

Monday, January 30: Red Beans & Rice
Tuesday, January 31: Crock Pot Italian Chicken

Now, this month has only one new recipe in it, the Slow Cooker Beef Brisket. The rest of it is all usual menu items for us. In New Orleans, red beans and rice is a standard Monday dish. I don't know if other places have something like red beans (growing up in Texas, we didn't have any) but, there's a story why red beans and rice is always on Monday.

The story goes that Monday was always wash day. So, in the morning the woman would put red beans on using the ham bone that was leftover from Sunday's dinner. Since wash day was an all day ordeal, the beans would simmer while the women washed and when they were finished with the was, so were the beans. While Monday is no longer necessarily wash day, the tradition is as much a part of New Orleans as Mardi Gras and Jazz. I still don't make my own red beans (I use Blue Runner) but, it's an easy meal, served with sausage and one of the hubs' favorite.

Wednesday is also going to be our official Wednesday meal. We're going to start watching my amazing niece on Wednesday nights while her parents are at a class at our church. (I'm SO excited about this!) And, it just won't be easy for me to cook before we're over there. So, pizza is something we could easily make at their house and not be eating out.

I'm planning on Tuesdays to be an actual cooking day and Thursdays are planned to be my crockpot day. Now, they'll probably be switched up occasionally, but whatever. It's my menu. And, I generally allow my menus to be flexible. If I feel like cooking something on Tuesday that's planned for Thursday, than so be it. Just as long as we're happy and eating at home.

This month also didn't get any consideration on being healthy. Eating at home and NOT eating fast food half the time, is going to be a nice change for us. I plan on taking a sandwich and snacks and other tasty things for lunches and snacks while I'm at school. The way my schedule works out, I'll be at school all day and I'm going to need to have food handy!

Twice a month will be date night, and those will probably include us eating out. We don't have those planned out, but if they land on a day where something is scheduled, I'll just move our meal to another day.

And, I've yet to address weekends. But, just eating at home Monday to Friday is going to make such a big difference and start getting me in the cooking mood again.

And, if you have any good recipes I should try or any suggestions on how to make this work well I'd love to hear them!! (And hopefully, thanks to the lack of pictures, you aren't too hungry after reading this post!)

The Nail Files

The Nail Files

Today I'm linking up for the Nail Files!!! I've just recently begun painting my nails regularly. Until about a year ago, I was a habitual nail biter. Now, I'm one of those girls that cries of a broken nail. A broken nail. Seriously, what's happened to me! (Ok, I don't actually cry, but I do think sometimes it may be the best option!) So, here's what you care about, my nail!

What Am I Going To Do?

In a previous post, I told you how I was going to be going to school this semester! I'm so excited and I'm ready to get to down to business and get my college degree. It's going to be fun for me. And hard work, I know that. But, I'm looking forward to getting my degree. I'm currently enrolled as a Civil Engineering major and I can't wait to be doing math problems again. I'm weird...I like doing math problems.

But, with this change I know that blogging is going to be different for me to. It's going to have to be less fly by the seat of my pants and much more planned. It's a different change for me. I like writing on a whim. I like the way that a post captures where I am at that very moment. The day I post a blog is the same day I wrote it. But, it's time for change. I love blogging. It's something I do for me. It's my diary of sorts. It gives me a place to be myself that I can't always be in real life. But, I'm going to accept this change and go with the flow.

So, that means that I'm going to have to change how I blog and interact with the blogging world.

First, that means I'm going to try and schedule my blog posts ahead of time. I want to get as much blogging done on the weekends and in my spare time as possible. I want to make sure that you get to read about my life, even if there is a delay or something.

Second, I'm going to schedule a few link-ups and things where I just need to link up on the day that the blog posts. Next weeks goals are Oh How Pinteresting Wednesday and the Nail Files. We'll see how this goes and adjust as I like, you know, since it's my blog and all!

Third, I'm going to have to figure out how to read and comment on blogs. I'm sad about this. Currently, I have about 35-40 posts a day to read and comment on and it usually takes me a little while to do that. So, I need some help from y'all, how do you comment on blogs efficiently? And how many blogs do you read? I like being active on the blogs I'm reading, so I only try to read blogs that fully interest me.

So, what I want to tell you is, I'm going to try my best and be a good blogger over the coming months. But, if y'all could have some patience with me while I adjust to the changes, it would mean a lot to me! I love y'all. Seriously, blogging is one of my most favorite parts of life and I'm not looking to abandon it! And, if you don't already, start following me on twitter! I'm going to try and be there as much as possible every day!

My Future's So Bright...

Well, today's a sad day in my life. My Tigers lost last night and I'm still trying not to cry. Yes, I'm overly attached to a football team. But, I'm trying to focus on other things.

Like getting laundry done.

And making a menu.

And writing my pen pal.

And writing my bestie.

And working on a new, not Christmas, blog layout.

And finishing registering for school.

Yep, you read that last one right. Finishing registering for classes. Next week, I am going back to college. My goal was to make it to LSU this semester but, after very frustrating experience with my previous school in San Antonio, I was unable to get enrolled at LSU. So, I went with plan B. I'm going back to the University of New Orleans. I went there a couple of years ago and could get enrolled in just a matter of days. So, I did. I'm going back as a Civil Engineering major and can't wait to start kicking school's butt!

I've registered already for 12 hours. I have calculus, an engineering class, and chemistry. I'm hoping to get  my art elective in this year if I can get a class that's open with the right time to fit in with my other classes. The art elective is something that is easy for me to pick up along the way. And, it will be easier to pick it up when I'm not trying to pick my classes from the left overs!

So, now, I'm doing the fun part of school! I'm going to be picking out my binders and other fun accessories! Classes start on Tuesday and I'm going to be ready!

And One More Christmas to Go!

Mr. B and I spent Christmas day with my family in Texas. And then the next day we drove home to New Orleans to do Christmas with Mr. B's family.

We got home about 7:30 or so in the evening, so we quickly picked up the presents for Lee, Lindsay and Parker, and headed over there to do Christmas. I was so glad to get there and have Parker in a great mood! We played a little bit and she was hamming it up! Seriously, she was being too cute for her own good!

After playing with me and Lindsay for a few minutes, she decided she wanted to go see Mr. B. So, she took off crawling over there. It was too cute. She got most of the way there and then turned around and crawled back towards us. After a few feet, she stopped and buried her face in the carpet acting all shy. She did this a couple more times and it was just TOO CUTE!! Seriously, I can't get enough of this little girl! So much of her personality is starting to shine through and I love it! So Mr. B and Lee joined us on the floor and we all played with Parker and it was a lot of fun!

But, fact of the matter was, it was time for Christmas (again!) and we had to get to business!

Seriously, how do you not spend too much money on this sweet face for Christmas?
I'm telling you, most challenging part!

And snuggles with her Uncle John.
She's just too much!
Of course, first up to open things was Parker. We actually got her to join us a bit and she helped open all four of her presents from her Aunt Betty and Uncle John! And, we got a few faces where you can pretend she actually knew what was going on! It's so precious!

Her first present from us!!

And apparently, it was amusing!
Seriously, cutest. Kid. EVER.

And, you can tell she knows this is her very own cell phone!
(Yep, her Aunt and Uncle are THE BEST!)

Now, her first two presents from us were a teapot set that teaches manners. I've played with this before and thought it would be a toy I would like to play with her with. So, that I knew was a winner.  I told Mr. B this was the "learning toy present." The second gift was the cell phone. I told Mr. B, this was the "Keep Parker from trying to use my cell phone present."

Her third gift was a book. I think reading is so important, and want to encourage that in Parker as her aunt. (I know her parents are doing that, but I really want to too! Ok?) So, we got her Dr. Seuss' ABCs book. It's too cute and it's one that she'll be able to start learning from to recognize her letters. And what kid doesn't love Dr. Seuss?

Me reading Parker the message inside the book.
Doesn't she look SO interested!!
Telling you, teach them young!!

Me reading to her some more!

The last present was a cute little outfit for her to wear! I love buying her little things, and she just loved the sparkly dots on the outfit! Oh, and I got to see her wearing it the first time. Yep, she's just as cute as I thought she would be in it!

I love how relaxed she is on me! She's just chillin' looking at her new outfit.
I appreciate that she's this comfortable with me!
Now, at Christmas I made sure to do something I don't usually do. I gave Mr. B the camera and told him to make sure to get some of me! I'm usually taking all of the pictures and I became invisible for most of the year! I was so sad to see that and I'm so glad he had the camera some. Seriously, I will always cherish these photos!

Lee and Lindsay got me this beautiful bracelet! I don't wear bracelets often, but I look forward to finding opportunities to wear it! We got Lindsay a book that I was hoping was a good choice and she loved! And we got her a Starbucks gift card. I told her, I figured she could take the book to a Starbucks and I could watch Parker and she could have a chance to read!

We would have loved to have hung out with Lee, Lindsay and Parker more, but we still had to do Christmas with Mr. B's Mom & Dad. So, we headed home and we had one last Christmas!

We got Mr. B's dad a windbreaker he wanted and his mom new cushions for the dining room chairs. Mr. B, always the pratical one of the two of us, got tennis shoes among other things. But, I, always using the chance to get things I WANT, took the opportunity to get lots of MAKE UP, and I was surprised with more bones and some movies! Life is good!

So, that was our Christmas! We had a great time at all of them, and our presents were wonderful. Mr. B and I are truly blessed to have wonderful family that we enjoyed spending the holiday's with as well as bought us very nice gifts. I can't tell you how thankful I am to have them in my life and how truly blessed we are. All of the gifts were nice, but the things that matter most to me are the relationships that were represented. Having my niece love us so much, learning so much about my cousin, those are things that make Christmas amazing! I hope everyone's Christmas was as wonderful as mine. I could offer you no greater wish!

I'm sad that Christmas posts must end now, but this is the last of the Christmas stuff to share until the end of this year!! So, one last time, Merry Christmas to all and to all, a good night!
