College Vox Box Review

Yeah, this is a little late...sorry! I do think it's a little odd that they didn't send the college box a bit before or a bit after finals...by the time I got mine, I was busy studying away...so instead, you'll get a quick review of a couple of the products in my box. I didn't get any pictures of the products in use - sorry!

NYC New York Color Glitter Eye Liner: Seriously, this was great. I didn't love the glitter in it. I felt like I was back in jr. high, but it went on so easily! Even the glitter came out of it. I've used the E.L.F. eye liner pencil, it didn't go on very easily, but the NYC one did. I'm actually going to go buy a regular black one after my Urban Decay one is gone. I think it'll be my new standard eye liner. Definitely worth trying!

Pentel EnerGel-X Pen: The particular pen I got was GREAT! I love a good gel pen. But, I've used the EnerGel pens many times in my life and about 25% of the time their product skips! I wan't to whole heartedly recommend the product but I just can't! But, I will definitely consider buying another pen to try it out again. Maybe Pentel will change my mind!

The Weightloss Diaries { vol 3 }

Starting Weight: 236 lbs. October 15, 2012
Current Weight: 229.5 lbs. Today
Total Weightloss: 6.5 lbs lost.
Goal Weight: 132 lbs.

Now, let's take a look at how things have been going the past couple of the weeks.

Week 1: NO Fast Food
Wow. I'm trying to think about the past few weeks. I did treat myself to chicken nuggets and french fries from Chick-Fil-A after I finished with finals. It was a treat and it's all I had. I also had Wendy's while I was studying for finals. BUT, I skipped the hamburger and went for a salad and chili. Then, I ALMOST had fast food a couple days ago, Wendy's, but I didn't do it. I was on my way home from Whole Foods and I was so hungry and more than anything - thirsty. And I had more stops to make before going home, so I stopped at Wendy's. I was going to get 5 chicken nuggets and a tea. I was really controlling what I was going to get. But, when I ordered they told me they were out of tea! So, instead of going for the coke I just left. You see, I had a revelation in that moment. I was sitting in a car full of GOOD food and I was going to eat fast food? How absurd! So, I pulled a grocery bag up to the front seat and ate some grapes. They were nice and juicy so they were both a food and helped to quench my thirst. I managed to get home without further incident. The big deal about that decision is it was 7pm. I don't usually make good choices like that in the evening when I haven't been paying super attention all day. (Let's face it, I was AT Wendy's!)
Week 2: Only 1 Coke a Day
This has been interesting. It's really been an average. If we don't go out to eat, I'm generally not tempted to drink cokes. But, if we're eating out, I REALLY want a coke. I'm generally averaging one coke a day. Now that things are settling down a bit, I'm about to focus more on this goal again. The good news is, I haven't reverted to my old ways of drinking a ton of cokes. And I don't find that I'm really hankering for them for the most part. 
Week 3: Drink 2 Bottles of Water a Day
While I haven't been actively trying to do this, I have started on the right direction unintentionally. Since I'm not drinking a lot of cokes, when I get thirsty, I drink water. I also started keeping a spare bottle of water (I use Camel Backs for water) in the fridge so I always have the option of cold water. I REALLY prefer cold water. This has helped me to start drinking water more regularly.
Week 4: Eat out only 1 day per week.
Week 5: No Eating after 8PM.

I haven't been working too hard on my goals right now. But, I'm pretty proud of myself anyways. I haven't reverted back to eating a ton of fast food and drinking a bunch of cokes. My desire is to change my habits for life. That in a month I haven't gone back to the really bad decisions I used to make (and really, eating fast food multiple times a week and drinking a ton of cokes are both really bad decisions) makes me really happy. It says I'm starting to make lifestyle changes.

Other Goal 1: Read Made To Crave
I found my books!! They were in a box they weren't supposed to be in. But, what we're focusing on that it's all back! I am going to start reading it shortly now that it's here. I'm figuring after Christmas.
Other Goal 2: Read Low GI Book. 
I've read a chapter already. I'm reading it slowly, taking notes, highlighting, etc. I really want to take all the information in and learn it. And since I'm not to the point I'm wanting to apply it yet, there's no real rush. So, slowly and surely I'm reading away!
Other Goal 3: Take "Before" pictures
Other Goal 4: Take "Before" measurements
Other Goal 5: Create an eating plan for the semester before school starts.

The big goals for me regarding weightloss right now are regarding Christmas dinner. Here they are:

Christmas Goal 1: Portion Control is of the utmost importance. I don't want to eat in one meal what I should eat in 2 or 3. If I want more food, I can always get more when I'm hungry again. Also, at Thanksgiving I ate a very reasonable amount of food and I found I enjoyed the food much more than if I had eaten gluttonously. It was like each bite was more special.
Christmas Goal 2: Only eat one roll. I had 2 at Thanksgiving and fact of the matter is, the second roll just wasn't worth it.
Christmas Goal 3: Preferably NO cokes but DEFINITELY no more than ONE. I don't want to go "hog-wild."

And, That's a Wrap!!!

Well, I can't believe how long it's been since my last post. But, finals have a way of controlling 2 weeks of your life for studying and then more time as your brain returns to it's previous state of not Jello. And then I've been babysitting my adorable niece a lot the past couple of weeks. So, I haven't been blogging. Not one bit. I have a huge goal this Christmas Break: make a blogging plan for next semester. Which includes but is not limited to, scheduling posts ahead of time for mid-terms and finals so I don't disappear on y'all again!

But, what matters now is the Fall 2012 semester is officially over and all of my grades have been posted. And my grades turned out something like this:
Ok, so to say I'm ridiculously proud of this semester is an understatement!!! I can't believe I made 4 As!!!  I really expected one more B in there but I'm not complaining in the the least!  And, to top it off, I made the Dean's List this semester!! Woot!!

After such a great semester, me and my new friend Cassey decided to hit the town and have fun for the night! But, first we met at her apartment, had some nice adult beverages and played some Just Dance 3 on the wii before heading out!

Then, it was off to hibachi! Yum! This is only my second time EVER going to hibachi and it was fun. And SO delicious!

After enjoying our dinner we wanted something else to do. We figured we could get some drinks at a bar, but we instead headed to Harrah's. You see, we could drink for free and maybe win some money...sadly, I didn't win any money, but I still had a lot of fun playing penny slots!

Now, I'm all ready for Christmas. I have all of the presents wrapped and under the tree, except two, and my Christmas cards are mailed. I'm so excited for the rest of Christmas break! I have big plans!!

  • Meet up with my friend Tressie for coffee and photography fun!
  • Take LOTS of photos!
  • Make gumbo - I make a delicious gumbo and after Christmas, once it's cold, it'll be gumbo time!
  • Read, Read READ!!! 
  • Organize our storage unit! And my iTunes. And my iPhoto.
So, those are the big things. If I accomplish those, it'll be a great Christmas break! And so far, I'm going in the right direction - starting with this blog post. I'm working on more posts and I can't wait to post plenty before the semester starts - and plenty more once it does start!

Weightloss Diaries { vol 2 }

Starting Weight: 236 lbs. October 15, 2012
Current Weight: 232 lbs. Today
Total Weightloss: 4 lbs lost.
Goal Weight: 132 lbs.

Now, let's take a look at how things have been going the past couple of the weeks.

Week 1: NO Fast Food
I'm actually really happy about how this has been going. I have had pizza a couple of times but I've always limited myself to no more than 3 pieces and I even paired it with a salad one time. I'm really happy with this. For me, fast food is things like McDonalds hamburgers and Burger King. I've had Chipotle a couple of times and I don't count that. Their food is made fresh, it's not frozen, and they don't process the food a lot. I even saw them getting ready to shred their own cheese. I've stopped getting the burrito and instead get a bowl. The last time, I even made them put less rice in it. And I get the mild salsa because it's diced tomatoes and onions. I also had Chick-Fil-A twice. Both times though, I controlled what I ate instead of letting the food control me. The first time I went in and ordered the chargrilled sandwich and got a fruit cup for the side. I wasn't even tempted to get something fried. The second time, today, I got the same sandwich. But, the Chick-Fil-A at school doesn't do fruit cups. I didn't really want the lettuce and tomato salad option that they had, but instead of giving into the french fries, which I really wanted, I made a second stop to get a fruit cup from another food place at the school. Sure it took more time, but I'm REALLY proud that I put in the extra effort to keep eating healthy
Week 2: Only 1 Coke a Day
Ok, I really, really thought this would be so much harder than it has been. How I'm handling this is one coke is one glass from wherever I am. Some places serve a smaller coke than other places so instead of worrying about how much I'm drinking from each serving, I just don't get refills. This is a HUGE deal for me. I'm notorious for drinking 2 or 3 32 ounce cokes in a single sitting. That's unbelievable now, but it was so common for me I didn't think about it. Now, I don't even always finish a coke if it's a large one. I even have days like today where I don't drink a single coke at all!!! Even on Thanksgiving I skipped the coke and went for tea. Sure it was sweet tea, but the point is to stop drinking 64 ounces of coke in a day. And at that, I've been quite successful!
Week 3: Drink 2 Bottles of Water a Day
Week 4: No Eating after 8PM.

Now, I'm not worrying about weeks 3 and 4 yet. This week I am spending all day at school studying for finals which are next week. It's going to be a challenge to stay on track for weeks 1 and 2 at this point. So, my focus is to continue not eating fast food and not drinking a bunch of cokes.

I was already studying for school so my WONDERFUL hubs went with my grocery list to Whole Foods today and picked up all of my things for lunch. I made the decision to spend a little extra money to buy prepackaged individual servings. By doing this, I'll be able to take my lunch and dinner and snacks to school every day. This will help me stay on track for the week with my first couple of goals!

Other Goal 1: Read Made To Crave
My book went missing. Seriously. No idea where it went. Along with a very expensive cook book. And one of my Beth Moore bible studies. I am hoping to find it soon, if not I'm going to have to reorder it...ugh!
Other Goal 2: Read Low GI Book. 
Oh my goodness, I want to read this, but, it's going to have to wait just a couple more weeks. Once the semester is over, I'm going to DEVOUR (pun intended ;) this book! You know, since I still know where it is!
Other Goal 3: Take "Before" pictures

Well, I guess that covers the big stuff right now! I'll update you again after finals and let you know how things have gone!

Also, please forgive in advance, I probably won't be posting much in the next couple of weeks...I'm going to be surviving finals. And then, updates galore...like about Thanksgiving...but again, after finals!!!

Sunday Social

Today's Sunday Social (which I'm linking up to a little later than intended...) is all about what we're thankful for. So, here's just a few things...

I'm thankful for husband. I couldn't have dreamed of finding a better husband. He is absolutely perfect for me. Like last night, when we decided to see a third movie on a whim...at midnight. Yep, he's great.

I'm thankful for my family. My mom and dad who raised me and helped me become the woman I am today. My grandparents who supported me and my parents through out my life. My sister who I'm very proud of for the things she's done so far in her life. My brother, who though no longer here, still encourages me to be the best version of myself I can be in his own, quiet way.

The Fam

I'm thankful for my family. I'm so lucky to have married into a great family. My mother-in-law and father-in-law are amazing to let us live with them. My Brother-in-law and sister-in-law are such a great support for me and the hubs. Not to mention, they've given me the most amazing niece! I love her so much and enjoy getting to watch her grow up...I can't believe she's almost two and how amazing she is already!

I'm thankful for my friends. New and old. Near and far. This year I've seen a dear friend move far away, and I've made new friends at school. This past year I've learned how important relationships are to me and my happiness and I've enjoyed working to cultivate this part of my life.

I'm thankful for school and the courage to change my major. I enjoy going to school and learning new things. I'm enjoying the things it teaches me and shows me. And I enjoy being in classes that make sense to me. This part of my life has improved so much this year and I'm very happy for it!

I'm thankful for the blogging world. Y'all really are an amazing group of people and I really appreciate having you in my life through this computer. You are always encouraging and supportive in a way no other group of people are.

While I have many more things to be thankful for, this is what I'm sharing today! I hope everyone enjoys this week. Having a day (or two!) off of work and/or school! Having a meal that is plentiful, delicious, with plenty of leftovers. And maybe even a little shopping!  Happy Thanksgiving Week! Be thankful for all of the amazing things in your life this week!

While their polish is expensive they only put out 5 colors in each of their collections versus the usual twelve so I can handle the expense much easier. The Cotton Anniversary

Today the Hubs and I are celebrating our second wedding anniversary. While we may not worry much about the traditional wedding gifts, we still make sure to celebrate our anniversary in a way that is special to us. Today I'll give him a gift, he'll give me a gift. We'll have our favorite meal of the year (Morton's Steakhouse) and we're going to start a new tradition this year.

But, here I'm just going to say how lucky I am to have married the man of my dreams. The man whose company I enjoy more than any others. I have found someone I want to see every day for the rest of my life. In the last two years I've learned some things. I'm not a marriage expert, but here's what I know...

  • Make each other laugh. A shared laugh creates such a strong bond. Make funny faces. Have inside jokes. They all go a long way.
  • Forgive and Forget. Not matter what happens, no matter what we may argue about, we always forgive and we always forget. Holding a grudge is a wedge that will tear your marriage apart.
  • Stay up late giggling in bed with the lights off at least once a week. The nights we spend together giggling create a great bond as well.
  • Take an interest in their interest. It shows you care. I love nail polish. He loves baseball. We both learn about the other's interest and it shows that we care.
  • Take a date night together regularly. Put down the cell phones and focus on each other. It's important we disconnect with the world so that we can connect with each other. 
Sure there are more things I could add to this list, but these are my favorites. Some of my favorite moments are around one of these things.

I'm looking forward to another year married to this amazing man. And I can't wait to tell you all about our dinner at Morton's. Our reservation is for 7:30pm and I know it's going to be amazing!

Blogging! Yeah, yeah, yeah. You've heard this from me. But, it still rings so true!

The hubs. Kind of obvious I guess, but I seriously love him and could never imagine leaving him off this list. Let's face it, when a guy dresses up like a pink bunny so you can have an awesome couples costume, he earns every good thing you can ever say about him!

{ three }
Music. It has so much power. Nothing helps improve my day like jamming to a great song, singing as loud as I can as I drive faster than I should. It's might be more therapeutic than therapy!

{ four }
Erin Condren Planner. I use my ECP for everything from school work, to remembering when I'm babysiting my niece, to keeping track of what I'm eating. It's one of the best things I've ever bought and I am always so thankful for it when I know about my tests earlier rather than later!

{ five }
Sociology. So far being a sociology major has made my life better! I seriously love it!

{ six }
Movies. I'm currently watching Midnight in Paris and it's just one of those movies that makes me love cinema all of over again! Movies are up where with music for helping me relax. When school is overwhelming nothing helps me to relax like going to the theater, getting a popcorn and coke and watching a movie. It's amazing!

{ seven }
iPhone 5. I love my iPhone 5. I waited about as patiently as I possibly could and it was love when I got it in my hands it was pure love. I have a really liked it so far and only found a couple of things from my Android that I miss, and they're all minor things. So, it's really love!

{ eight }
Family. They make life better despite (or because?) of the craziness and spice they offer. Family is such an amazing thing and I absolutely love them!

{ nine }
Friends. I love my friends and the relationships I have with each one. There's something so special about the people who choose to love me, not because they have to but because the want to. I don't take any of them for granted!

Favorite Thanksgiving Memory
  • My favorite memory is probably from Thanksgiving 2010. It was the perfect Thanksgiving. The hubs and I had just gotten married, Lee and Lindsay were waiting on Parker, and nothing had changed. We had dinner, snuck in a short Black Friday shopping trip, and still went shopping for a Christmas tree. It really was perfect and it will be awhile before anything lives up to that.

Favorite Thanksgiving Food
  • Pumpkin Pie. I have my grandmother's pumpkin pie recipe and it makes the best pumpkin pie. I look forward to it so much!

{ three }
What is  a Thanksgiving Tradition you and your family have?
  • Right now, it seems like none. We'll get together for dinner, but that's about it. It's one of those things, I understand that everyone is in a new season of life, but I miss buying a Christmas Tree the night before Thanksgiving, Lunch on Thanksgiving Day, planning for and Black Friday shopping. It was perfect, but no longer. Hopefully soon we'll start establishing some traditions again.

The Weightloss Diaries { vol 1 }

Don't Forget About My Blogaversary Giveaway Going On!

Today I'm starting a series that I'm planning on doing every other week, "The Weightloss Diaries." I'm trying to lose weight and need somewhere to hold myself accountable and this little piece of the internet is a good starting place. So, be prepared for some updates and hopefully I'll lose this weight!

Starting Weight: 236 lbs. October 15, 2012
Current Weight: 233 lbs. Today
Goal Weight: 132 lbs.

So, there's the numbers. I have just a bit over 100 pounds I want to lose. I'm very excited to lose the weight, but more than anything I want to start getting healthy.

I want to eat healthier, and be healthier. And right now, I'm taking slow. I've tried things like Weight Watchers and have found that even though I was still allowed to eat pretty freely, I hate the sudden change from eating whatever I want to eating only healthy things. So, I'm trying a different plan right now.

Week 1: NO Fast Food
Week 2: Only 1 Coke a Day
Week 3: Drink 2 Bottles of Water a Day
Week 4: No Eating after 8PM.

Now, I've done weeks one through three already, but I've kind of slipped up on them and want to start over. I had gotten as low as 231 lbs. along the way but have gained 2 lbs. back. So, I'm going back to the beginning and trying again. So, starting today - a Friday - I'm returning to week 1 and cutting out fast food. Since I started this post after school today and I already had fast food for lunch so, that means no fast food starting with dinner.

I know that a week of exams really threw me off so in just a few weeks when finals roll around I'm going to be prepared for that. But for now, my goal is to get a handle on these four things.

Other Goal 1: Read Made To Crave
Other Goal 2: Read Low GI Book. 

I think these are plenty of goals for the next month or so. They'll definitely help get on track for next year!! Oh, and it's going to be a lot of work since the holidays are coming up soon but I'm going to do my best! 

P.S.: I just got back from dinner with the hubs, and I'm glad to say that  went for salad and soup and a pancake for dinner instead of the usual highly fried food I go for. Was it perfect? Nope. But was it a better choice. And that makes me happy!

Ten Secrets

Having struggled for the past couple of months trying to come up with things to blog about, I've finally started to figure somethings out to blog about! I'm starting today with the 10 Day You Challenge. Back a few months ago, this was all the rage and I never did it. Lucky me! So, here is day one of the 10 Day You Challenge: Ten Secrets.

{ one }
Although I live in New Orleans and love being here close to family, I know, and hubs knows, that this isn't where we want to live the rest of our lives. We know we'll miss our family and hate being further away from them but we both know, one day, in the future, we'll leave.

{ two }
While many would think that if we aren't going to live near his family we would live near mine that's not really the case either. As much as I love my family and my native state of Texas, we probably won't end up there either.

{ three }
I dream of living in a big city. Like New York City. Growing up in Texas in a small(er) town, I always imagined I would want to spend the rest of my life in a small town or even in the country. But, I've found I really love big cities and all they have to offer.

{ four }
I have a hard time finding a balance on things. Blogging for instance, I want to do it all. Post exactly like I should, twitter, instagram, pinterest, etc. Everything just the way to make my blog a "successful" blog. But, I know that isn't possible with everything else in my life. So, I spend a lot of time working hard to find a balance between the things I need to do, the things I love to do, want to do, etc.

{ five }
I've always wanted to write a novel or a play. And, I wanted to participate in NaNoWriMo this year but I looked at my schedule and realized that might not be the best plan I've ever hatched (see point four). So, I'm hoping that in a few years when I finish school I'll remember this and have a chance to try it!

{ six }
I want a tattoo. I don't usually say much about this because I was raised that they were wrong. But, I really like them. I want one in remembrance of my brother but, I can't really come up with something I love and where I want to put it. I'm thinking a Dalmatian on my shoulder blade, but I've yet to fall in love with something to the point of doing it.

{ seven }
Even though I'm less than one semester into my new major, I love it more than I ever would have thought. So much so that I've actually considered graduate school for the first time in my life. Now, it's just been a fleeting thought, but I absolutely love that I'm going the right direction with my life!

{ eight }
The hubs and I have always talked about how we plan to wait a few years before having kids and pretty much everyone knows I'm okay with it. But, I don't think most people are aware that I'm really happy waiting. Like, I don't have an ounce of baby fever. When other women talk about how much baby fever they have I just don't understand.

{ nine }
Because I've been struggling to blog, I've been looking for writing prompts and and challenges for inspiration. I have been blogging for almost two years (in just 4 DAYS!) and there are not many things I stick with like this. I really enjoy it and just because I'm experience a bit of writers block (boring life?) doesn't mean I'm ready to shut this blog down. Instead, I'll find a different way to go about blogging. I'll still be blogging about my life, instead, I'll just get a bit of inspiration!

I hate things that involve secrets. I never know quite what to put here. I'm pretty happy with this list, but geez, what a struggle it was!!

Alrighty, there are my ten secrets! I'm not going to be posting these every day, they're going to be mixed up with some other things, but you'll find out 9 of my loves in the coming days!

  • A blog makeover! I am itching to have someone do a blog design for me but, with the holidays coming up, it's just going to have to wait.

  • Nail polish, nail polish, nail polish! Since I got a new phone last month and the holidays are coming up, I'm not buying any nail polish and I'm going through withdrawals!
  • Good jeans. The problem with wearing plus sizes is it's REALLY hard to buy jeans that look good. All of my jeans give me mom butt, I just don't know what to do about getting jeans that look good on me. Any plus size girls out there have any suggestions?

  • 666 Park Avenue is currently a must watch. If you're not watching it, please do! It's so interesting!
  • Revolution is the other must watch show that both hubs and I are watching. Hubs likes Triple 6 more than Revolution, but Revolution is my favorite.
  • Nashville and Elementary are two other shows I watch too and both are really good.

Playing Ketchup

...err...catch up...

It's been WAY too long since I've posted. But, I'm sitting at the library at school and decided I needed a short break and you needed to know what was going on in my life. So, here's a post. But, I think I'm going to do this through bullet points because that's where my brain is.

  • I had a really rough patch for a couple of weeks. It was nothing like it is sometimes, but I couldn't hardly get out of bed. I was just so frustrated with school. But, not even really with school. I talked on the phone to someone who should always tell me how wonderful and amazing I'm doing at school and instead they told me how I needed to do better because "I'm better than B's. I could make A's in every class if I just put in enough effort." Fact: I put in tons of work to school, I'm doing really well in school this semester making As and Bs. And, at some point, I have to take a break from studying to eat, sleep, and see my husband. Once I worked through things internally I felt much better! And, things are back on track.
  • The timing couldn't be better. This week and next week is the last round of tests before finals. I need to do awesome. Some of my classes I'm making Bs in I could make As in if this round of testing goes well. So, I'm studying like crazy!
  • I was saddened when I logged into blogger today. I knew it was just a matter of time before I started losing followers because I wasn't blogging enough. It just kind of hurt when I saw it actually happen. It was only one person, but it's one person who won't know this:
  • I went to my first Halloween Costume Party EVER this past weekend. It was great I had tons of fun. And our costumes were AWESOME!!!

  • I have about 5 posts in draft mode in blogger. I can't wait to actually finish writing them up to share with you. Some of them are seriously awesome.
  • I've started trying to get healthier the past few weeks. The first week, I cut out fast food. The second week, I limited myself to one coke a day. This week, I'm trying to 6 glasses of water a day and continuing the things I've previously done. I've actually lost a few pounds on those first two things alone. I'm pretty proud of myself. I've also started reading about the Low Glycemic Index Diet. It seems like something that is going to work for me and over the coming weeks and months I'm going to slowly start implementing the diet. I can't just quit everything I've been doing in one day and start something new overnight and so far this step by step method is really working for me! Prayers that I can keep it up, please!
  • My insomnia's been flaring up the past couple of weeks. I can't seem to go to bed before 5 AM which makes getting up for classes at 8:30 AM a little difficult. I'm doing better this week. But, pray that it sticks soon. I HATE when this happens!
  • I'm totally addicted to the song Cruise by Florida Georgia Line. Seriously, it's in my head all of the time!!

  • I got a list of classes in my minor being offered at school next semester and I'm so excited about them! I think I'm going to take at least two of the classes. I love when I'm looking at class offerings in my new major/minor. All of the descriptions are SO fascinating that I could take the whole next semester in my minor...luckily, I'll be able to take at least 2, possibly 3. One is the intro class to Women and Gender Studies (my minor), one is an English/Literature class which I need 3 more hours in and one can be taken as a sociology course, which is my major. I have to look at the details of my major again to plan it better, but it still excites me so much! I really can't wait to design my schedule next for next semester...the decision to change my major was the best decision I ever could have made!!
Ok. I told myself I would blog for only 30 minutes and this is the end of my 30 minutes! I hope to blog again soon, if it's still awhile, please don't leave me!!
