Waiting

Today, after weeks of talking about, I just grabbed Mr. B, our coupon for buy one get one free movie theater tickets and we headed to the late show at The Prytania Theater to see The Help. The show is supposed to start at 9:30, but here it is 9:25 and I'm sitting in the lobby waiting to get into the theater to watch the show!

Now, I've done a pretty good job of avoiding any spoiler information about the movie and so far all I know about the movie beyond the previews is the very popular quote "I is kind. I is smart. I is important." And that can't be avoided if you have spent just one moment on pintrest the past couple of weeks!

Well, I leave you with this short post, my first mobile post by the way, and expectations that this movie is going to knock my socks off....and the previous showing of the movie just ended so I'm going to go settle in for the show!

*I realized during the movie I misquoted a little bit...I've corrected it now, but forgive my original error. Mobile post from the lobby of the movie theater wasn't 100% perfect!

6 Years Ago

6 years ago today, my life was about to change in a big way. Today is the 6 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. For so many, today is a very sad day. On this day six years ago, so many people lost so many things. And for them, my heart truly goes out.

But, today is one of the most special days in my life. Because of Hurricane Katrina, I found my husband. The man that I love, who I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. Because of Hurricane Katrina, I found happiness with him. And I just don't think it would have happened without the storm.

When we first started dating, we called each other Honeybear & Cutiebear...I know, cute.
But, being who we are, "bear" became "Bexar" because "Bexar" is pronounced "Bear."
And then, that became "Bex-ar."
Bexar is the name of the county San Antonio is in.
So, we took this picture inside the state capital not long after we started dating.
You see, six years ago while my hubby was evacuated from his lifelong home here in New Orleans, I got to spend that same time hanging out with him and his friends. I pretty much just tagged along where ever they went and did whatever they did. We went to Starbucks (a rarity for me at that point in my life!) and Macaroni Grille. We spent a lot of time together.

At this point, I was taking classes at community college in San Antonio.
And Mr. B was taking classes for his masters.
So, when we would get together we would both need to study.
So, this is us taking a break from studying at Starbucks.
Again, this is in our early days!
Except the day that he went to Ikea. I didn't go for that. I don't really remember why now. I just remember I missed him. I remember wishing I could just hang out with him all of the time. But, I was about to go home and return to my life, and who knew what his life was going to entail?

This has always been one of my favorite pictures of Mr. B and I.
This was taken the same day as the first picture.
It has all of my favorite things in it:
Texas
Katy Tigers Fashion
Mr. B
(In No Particular Order.)
So, we went to a football game together (I tried to discreetly hold his hand in the car!) and then we eventually found ourselves hanging out at my aunt and uncle's house, in the country, looking at the stars. (Everyone sing with me: The stars at night, are big and bright *clap clap clap clap* deep in the heart of Texas!) and I found him putting his arms around. I felt his chin on top of my head. And in that moment...wow...I've never felt like that before or since! Then we went inside.

It was just us hanging out, on the couch. His arm around me. And I asked, so smoothly..."So, what does this mean?" Yeah...I said it was smooth. So, we talked about it for awhile and I was ready to go to bed (seriously, it was late and I had all day plans the next day!) and he asked me if he could kiss me...and, I said no. I just didn't know if I was ready for that? What would this kiss entail? Was it a short peck? Or a full blown, sweep you off your feet, find out you're in love kiss? Oh, and all I could think was, I'm 18 just out of high school and here's this worldly wise man of 26...how was I EVER going to measure up if I kissed him? I was scared! Oh, it's so silly looking back on that night!

So, y'all, Hurricane Katrina sucked! It really did...but for me, it literally set the course for the rest of my life! Mr. B, I LOVE YOU!! Thanks for holding me under the stars this week 6 years ago...or I may never had asked you such mind blowing questions as "So, what does this mean?" and then where would we be?! Oh, and just for kicks...here's a couple of early pictures of Mr. B and I!

Breakfast Braid

Ok...I wrote this awhile ago, and I did something I NEVER do, I wrote it in Word. I NEVER write my blog posts in Word. I just write them in Blogger. Then I can work on them from any computer etc. It works for me. Well, today I was starting this post for the THIRD time and was confused why I still felt like I wrote this before. I finally figured it out doing something else entirely. So, ladies and gentlemen, please, please try this delicious dish. It will make me feel like ALL of this craziness was worth it!

**********************************

When I originally started blogging, I started a food blog, this is many moons ago, but I definitely had a food blog. It was close to my heart until I started this one. And then it pretty much fell by the wayside. Oops. And then I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with it. Did I want to try and revive it? Then that would mean another blog to blog on. Did I want to just let it drop off the face of the earth and start blogging recipes here? Well, since this is the second recipe I’m posting, I guess you can figure out what I decided.

I’m now officially posting recipes here at It Takes 2. And, I’m going to start a recipe page up at the top too! So, that they can all be in one place! It seems like it may be the best method to this and y’all wonderful blogging friends of mine can see some of the delicious things that I like to cook!

So, on to the recipe!

First, grab these delicious ingredients!

4 eggs
½ pound breakfast meat (I used bacon.)
¼ onion
2 cups cheese (I used cheddar.)
1 can refrigerated pizza dough

Now, here’s a few notes on ingredients. I used bacon, I highly recommend sausage. In hindsight, Mr. B and I both agree that we would have preferred sausage in this meal. So, just do yourself a favor and go straight for the sausage. Learn from my mistake. My next thought is this. Pretend you’re making your favorite omelet. Now put those ingredients in this. Love mushrooms? Add them! Peppers make you happy? Toss them in there! This is such a forgiving meal and is almost impossible to mess up! Now, get ready to cook!

Walk over to oven, set it for 425 degrees. Yep. Now grab a cookie sheet and spray that sucker down with some Pam…you’d hate for this delicious eats to find itself stuck to the cookie sheet when you’re done! Then spread your pizza dough out over the whole cookie sheet (approximately 10 inches by 15 inches). Alright, I have fallen in love with scissors in lieu of knives. Seriously. I like to cook bacon by the half slice, it fits in the pan better. I don’t use a knife to cut it in half, I use scissors. For this next step, I used scissors. Seriously, try it. If I’m not a culinary genius, well, I just am...trust me. Ok, cut an equal amount of strips on each long side of the dough. Later on down the line, you’re going to criss-cross these to make the braid. I left about 3 inches in the middle uncut. It was a pretty good amount of space. Now, set this aside. We’ve got other things to prepare.

Real quick here, grab your eggs and prepare them your favorite way to make scrambled eggs. I add a bit of milk, salt and pepper to my eggs and whisk them up nicely. And by whisk I mean grab a fork and beat them to death, but that’s just how I do it. No need for you to follow in my footsteps if you prefer another way to do it. Just get your scrambled egg concoction ready and move on to the next step.

Alrighty, if you’re using bacon (despite my warnings; if you use bacon and are disappointed, it’s not my fault. Seriously guys, just listen to me on this? K? k. Thanks!) go ahead and fry that up now. Otherwise, start your sausage in your pan. Once that is about cooked, toss your veggies in to cook. Get them softened up all nice like. Then, add your scrambled egg mixture to the pan and scramble your eggs up nicely. I recommend having your scrambled eggs a bit wet when you’re done because they are going to get cooked a bit more down the line. But do whatever makes you happy. Now that they’re done, go ahead and set them aside, too.

Grab your prepared pizza dough. Got it? Ready? Ok. Sprinkle half of your cheese on the bottom. Try to spread it out some so that you can have some cheese in every delicious bite. Now, grab your egg, sausage, veggie mixture. Lay it out evenly on the not-cut portion of the pizza dough. Once it’s on there, add the rest of your cheese. Yummy…cheese!  Ok. Now we’re going to make this into the braided goodness that it is! Take one fringe from each side and criss-cross them. And do that all the way to the end. I brought the last two up and over and just kind of criss-crossed them wherever. It wasn’t the most beautiful ending, but it got the job done. (If you criss-crossed both ends first and then started at one end and worked to the other, it would finish up much prettier!)

Now, bake it for 15 minutes or until it’s a nice pretty golden brown color. Pull it out. Cut it, serve it up. Enjoy your deliciousness you just created. Oh, and isn’t it so pretty too?

Ok, I’ve also got a couple of suggestions for you when serving this awesomeness up. First, it’s really wonderful exactly how it is. But, if you want to add a little happiness to it, salsa spices it up wonderfully. But, what I really imagine serving this with is white gravy. Seriously, I think it would complement this dish perfectly! So, feel free to try that and let me know how it goes!

Alright. Now that you have my whole recipe and all of my thoughts, please go on and enjoy this. And, know it reheats wonderfully. Make it on Monday, slice it up, reheat it in the morning and you have breakfast every day this week! Try it…you’ll love it!

Friday Fancies: Black Tie Wedding Guest

Friday Fancies: Black Tie Wedding Guest

This week we were prompted with pretty much anything wedding. It could be a bridal look, a look for the bridesmaids or a look for a guest. I decided to do a look I've been dying to do. Friday's Fancies always makes me want to do a black-tie look and this was the week. I've always wanted to attend a black tie wedding and if I could, this is the look I would go with. Very classic and so perfect!

I love this Oscar de la Renta dress. I would remove the bows, I think they're a little much, but overall this dress is perfect. I would love wearing it.

And, anything this perfect requires Manolo. I heart Manolo. I even named my iPod Manolo Blahnik. Whenever I have lots and lots of money, I'm going to own a pair of Manolo Blahniks. Because they are so gorgeous!

And, after spending too much time searching for the perfect diamond necklace and then I thought pearls. Pearls would be perfect. And they were. So, that's how I finished the outfit off!

Now, I just wish I had somewhere to wear this outfit too! It's just too pretty!

Y'all have a great weekend!! And stop by tomorrow, I have a delicious recipe all lined up for you!!

Kitchen Decor & Things we Collect

Last week I finally got motivated and hung these shadow boxes in our kitchen! I've had them for quite a while, I just couldn't decide where to put them. Kitchen? Living room? Bedroom? I just didn't know. Finally, I figured out I wanted them in the kitchen. You see, we have several glasses that I wanted to display and just didn't have a good way to display them! Now I do!

Left glass: Peace, Love, Rock and Roll; from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Center Glasses: Champagne flutes my sister gave Mr. B & I for our Wedding
Right Glass: The Founding Glass, from Fenway Park, a Boston Red Sox glass
The Founding Glass. What's the point of this? When Mr. B went to Boston a few years ago, he bought this glass as a souvenir. Since then, Mr. B has collected glasses wherever he's gone. Some of them have interesting stories behind them. Like the glass from University of South Carolina. This one is unique. The glasses there were a bit more expensive than usual, so Mr. B decided to purchase a University of South Carolina Alumni glass. No, neither of us has graduated from University of South Carolina, but the glass was significantly cheaper than the others, so that's what we got it. Yeah, I always chuckle when using that glass!

Some, like the OSU coffee mug completely changed our collecting plan. We couldn't find a glass we liked there, so we purchased this coffee mug that we both really liked. So, later on that same trip, we purchased the Gateway Arch mug. It's pretty awesome. So now, when we travel we decided to expand our options to coffee mugs.

Now, below is a picture of {most} of the glasses we've collected. I say most because about 15 of them were dirty when I took this picture. And, this doesn't include all of our glasses either. We also have Star Trek glasses and a  few others I didn't pull out for this picture. As you can see, our cabinet is also pretty close to being super full. I told Mr. B, after our next trip I'm going to have to rearrange our cabinets so all of our glasses can fit. Oh, and when you have this many glasses you also have to rotate them. You ended up finding you're using the same 10 or so glasses so you have to move them around to use some different ones. Yeah, life is rough when you travel this much!

Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday {vol 5}

google

This week on "Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday" I will be highlighting something that always makes my heart happy. A beautiful cake! Everyone has that something that just brightens their day and makes the whole world better when they see it. And for me, that's cakes. Not the bad, ugly ones, those break my heart, but the ones that look like these:

Some of the beautiful cakes I find are simple. Simple and easy can be gorgeous. Like this beauty:

And This One:

And this one too!

Some, Make a statement to me because they are subtle. Subtlety is an art form. Subtle can be a much louder statement than bright colors, or complex designs. Subtle is like old money.

But, the cakes that take my breath away. The cakes that make me know there is a God. The cakes that make me think that every calorie laden bite of cake I've ever taken was worth it, are beauties like the ones below. These are the ones that I can sit and stare at for hours and hours and wonder. (I have a love affair with beautiful cakes, clearly. Is is just me? Please, someone else say you dream about beautiful cake creations at night?)

One day, I will have mad skills like these and I will make cakes this wonderfully intricate!

This gumpaste creation? Ah. Maz. Ing. Yes, I will have this cake for my very own!

Ok, now that you have been made happy by the cakes that make me happy, I wish you a very good Wednesday! Go forth and pin beautiful cakes!

Target Tuesday

Women's Merona® Manette Double Buckle Tall Boots - Tan

Today's Target Tuesday post is kind of short, sweet and to the point. Tara (at fabulous but evil) tweeted about the boots being too big in the calves for her, I automatically knew I had to have these. I have tried many pairs of boots and none have been big enough in the calf. Hopefully these would fit me!

And, I'm itching for this Wii game. I love Mario Bros, and I've played it before and I love it! (I wish I had the really cool red edition of the Wii.)

Y'all have a great rest of your Tuesday!! (Oh, and what do you think of Target's new website design?)

My Blog is on Fire?!

Y'all, this  past week, I was awarded not one, but TWO blog awards! Really? Me? My little ol' blog? Y'all, I'm just absolutely touched!

Carissa, at Kissed a Frog gave me the Blog On Fire Award!

First, you need to go check her blog out! It's wonderful! I love seeing the photos she posts!

Ok, now the blog rules require me to tell you seven smoldering secrets. I don't think much about my life ever qualifies as "smoldering" so, I'm just going to tell you a seven cool things you may not know about me! It's the best I've got to offer!

{one}
Between a book and youtube videos, I can teach myself just about anything crafty. Currently, I'm becoming quite proficient with my sewing machine! I really like that my brain works this way!

{two}
I HATE laundry. Like, on a level most people don't. When I was a kid, our washing machine was old well seasoned. The machine wouldn't spin on it's own so you would have to wait until it squealed and then go open the lid, turn the agitator and it would do the rest of the cycle with no problem. The problem was, you had to sit and wait around for it to squeal so that you could go spin the thing. Nothing makes laundry worse than having to babysit the washing machine!

{three}
I've moved more times that I can remember. I can definitively count like 15 moves that I've made, and so many moves were made before I was born, I'm just not sure about them. So, It could easily be more than what I've counted! And no, my parents weren't in the military. And about 10 of them were in a 15 mile radius. And 3 of them were on the same street. Yeah, I've moved a bit.

{four}
One of my go-to movies when I want something on for noise in the background is Burlesque. I'm not a big Cher fan, but I am a big Christina Aguilera fan. All the way back to her Genie in a Bottle days.

{five}
I like writing with fountain pens. To me they are very classic and wonderful. I have a couple of them and love to use them. I have one that was my great-grandmothers that I need to get repaired. But, I'm SO scared to mail it to the pen hospital. If it was damaged or lost I would be heart broken!

{six}
I'm a pack rat by nature. I have to be very deliberate about getting rid of things. And watching any Toy Story movie only makes my pack-ratted-ness worse.

{seven}
I don't have a "thing." I don't collect anything in particular. My mom does roosters, I have a friend who does owls. My sister-in-law is all about branches/leaves/birds. My sister did frogs for awhile and then she did cowboy boots and camo. I just don't have a thing. Pink is the closest thing to a thing I have...

Ok, now I have to offer you up a few great blogs that I like to read!

Lindsay @ the berteau life

Melissa @ Little Mrs. Married

Camille @ from Texas, with love

Alrighty, go check out these wonderful blogs and be ready, I'll have another blog award post coming up shortly!

Friday Fancies: Too School for Cool

Today I'm linking up with {av} at {long distance loving} for Friday Fancies. Today we were prompted with "Back to School" so If I were going to back to school right now, this might be what I showed up in...if money were NO object!

Friday Fancies: Too School for Cool

I would definitely need to be on top of the latest trends and these pink pants do that justice. I had originally considered using an even brighter pair of pants, but I just couldn't do it! I felt that it was blinding and distracting...this pair of pants though accomplish their fashion statement perfectly!

I kept the shirt, belt, shoes and tote bag neutral and subdued because let's face it, the pants are enough of a statement. And too many trends at once is fashion vomit!

Now, it is back to school and 100% of the fun with back to school is school supplies. Lots and lots of school supplies. If you were to look in that GORGEOUS tote back, you would find some cute binders, and lots of fun pens! Even now I have like 50 pens in my purse! I LOVE options when it comes to writing utensils! And, the most important accessory - a coffee travel mug. Because let's face it, I was up all night making sure I had all my supplies and that this outfit was the outfit!

So, there you go...that's what I came up with this week! For all of you going back to school in the coming weeks, good luck! And look cute because pajama's aren't proper clothes for class!

Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday {vol 4}

google

Pinterest...oh, how I love thee...and these beautiful things I've found!

Do yourself a favor, make these. They are SUPER easy (just throw all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix!). Then bake! DON'T make the mistake I made though...DON'T put these in cupcake liners...just put Pam in your muffin tin and pull them out! They won't come out of a cupcake liner!

This is next up on my "to try" list! I LOVE tacos but, let's face it, tortilla's can quickly blow an diet! But, by putting the lettuce as the tortilla, it makes tacos just a bit healthier! Woot!

This is definitely on my to do list as I'm working on my photo projects!

If this wasn't nearly impossible to remember, I would definitely be making this all the rage!
